Kekionga Middle School is named for the capital of the Miami Tribe. The village was located at the confluence of the Saint Joseph, Saint Marys and Maumee rivers, part of Fort Wayne today. Kekionga was an important trading post and was once called by Chief Little Turtle "that glorious gate...through which all the good words of our chiefs had to pass from the north to the south and from the east to the west." The school was built in 1960. Kekionga is a Title I school and offers English Language Learner (ELL) services. Students attending Kekionga come from Fairfield, Harrison Hill, Indian Village, Study and Washington elementary schools and feed into South Side High School. The school is located in the Board of School Trustees District 5.
